Finding the perfect executive-looking office chair can be tough, especially if you're working with a limited budget. But I have good news for Aussies; the Nouhaus Posture Chair is an excellent pick if you fall into this category. It's comfortable and has a sleek leather look that fits into most offices.
However, don't just take my word for it. In this review, I'll delve into my experience with the Nouhaus Posture Chair – sharing its strengths and shortcomings with you. Ready? Let’s get started.
Nouhaus Posture Chair: A Quick Overview

The Nouhaus Posture Chair is one of my favourite ergonomic/executive chairs for its aesthetic appeal and functionality. It has a five-position lumbar support that is adjustable at the bottom of the backrest; you only have to pull the lumbar support to the desired position. Each level of the lumbar support clicks into place without a glitch, which is ideal for supporting the lower back and maintaining proper posture.
Nouhaus’ impressive design and ergonomics aid in promoting correct posture and creating a protective contour between your back and the chair's structure. But it's not all glamour, and to be fair, every chair has its areas of compromise. The office chair's armrest adjustments are limited. You can only flip them up and down to create more space when you need it.

There's also the build quality, which isn't premium or made from high-end durable materials. I wasn’t particularly pleased with the silver finish on some parts of the chair. Plus, the foundation of the office chair has a nylon wheelbase. While lightweight and cost-effective, nylon doesn't offer the same longevity as some alternative materials like aluminium.
Nouhaus Posture may not claim the title of the most luxurious executive chair; that’s for Herman Miller models. But its blend of design, functionality, and value makes it a worthy investment for anyone who wants an executive chair for their home office or workstation.

Nouhaus Posture Chair: In-Depth Review
My in-depth review of the Nouhaus Posture Chair delves into the office chair's features, design, and functionality to help you make a more informed decision. I'll look at the best features and pros of the Nouhaus chair first, then discuss the potential drawbacks to look out for.
Best Bits of Nouhaus Posture Chair
The Nouhaus Posture Chair is one of my top picks for executive chairs in Australia. Here are my reasons:
#1 - Sleek and Stylish Design

The Nouhaus doesn’t just serve a functional role; its visual appeal is undeniable. The intricate thread-stitched diamond pattern, while beautiful to look at, adds an extra layer of comfort. While many executive chairs boast leather finishes, the Nouhaus enhances the look with PU leather upholstery that fits seamlessly in a professional office environment.
Don't get me wrong, leather is an excellent material for executive chairs and often the most preferable, but it often comes at a high cost. PU leather is also not as breathable or natural-feeling as real leather, but it has its own advantages. It’s waterproof and stain-resistant, so it’s easy to clean and maintain.
#2 - Reliable Build Quality
I was concerned about the structure of the wheelbase. But the reinforced nylon wheelbase does well. Still, that’s not to say it matches the performance or durability of an aluminium wheelbase.

At the bottom, you have five beams and castors instead of four for stability and balance. Your weight is distributed evenly across the five beams, so you won’t have to worry about tipping over when using the chair. The office chair also has good-quality upholstery. Although it’s not the real leather, as explained above, it still gets the job done.
#3 - Good Comfort
Though Nouhaus' open-cell foam cushion has a slightly lower density than most closed-cell paddings, it’s quite supportive and comfortable for sitting for hours at a time. It has good breathing capacity and allows for better airflow, making it comfortable in warmer weather. This was a thoughtful idea from Nouhaus, considering that the PU leather fabric isn’t highly breathable.
However, I wouldn't recommend getting the Nouhaus Posture Chair if your main concern is to keep cool when working in warmer climates. There are high-quality chairs with mesh backs (like the Buro Tidal Chair) or fully mesh chairs (like the ErgoTune Supreme V3) that can provide a more effective solution for managing heat in such conditions.
Nouhaus prioritises support in your lower back area, thanks to the thick pillow and padding throughout the backrest, seat, and armrests. This provides plush comfort and support. Its integrated headrest also prevents straining your neck and shoulder and plays a crucial part in promoting good posture and reducing the risk of musculoskeletal problems.
#4 - Adjustable Features
For starters, Nouhaus includes armrests that you can flip upwards to get out of the way—unfortunately, those are the only armrest adjustment points. The seat height can also be adjusted from 47.5 to 56.9 cm. Combined with a seat depth of 48.5 cm, Nouhaus is a good pick if you're taller than 180 cm.
It also features the synchro tilt recline mechanism for ease and smooth reclining. Typically, it’s a two-to-one ratio where the backrest might move two inches, and the seat tilts up one inch. This keeps you in an ergonomic position throughout the entire recline without lifting your feet off the ground. The Nouhaus chair can go up to 135 degrees when you recline.
The unique adjustment feature is the five-position lumbar adjustment, which is simple to operate. Pull the lumbar support from the bottom to click into one of the five levels until you find you find the right position for your lower back. You can do this while seated in the chair or standing.

#5 - Hassle-Free Assembly
The Nouhaus Posture has an intuitive assembling process. So, if you dread the idea of dealing with complex assembly instructions, you will have it easy here. I recommend you lay every part down on the floor, as this makes things much easier when putting the parts together. You can also use the brand's assembly video, which I've included below, for a quick set-up.
The chair comes well-packed. In the box, you’ve got an easy-to-follow instructions manual and nine parts to assemble: the back, seat, wheelbase, arms, seat mechanism, gas lift, gas lift cover, castors, and a screw set.
#6 - Good Value for Money
Nouhaus’ Posture Chair isn’t overly expensive. It strikes a good balance between elegance and affordability. It features the classy looks of a boss-level chair at a budget-friendly price tag.
When I wrote this review, the chair was retailing at $597 for any of the three colour variations.

Drawbacks of Nouhaus Posture Chair
There are a few things about the Nouhaus Posture Chair that I thought could be improved. I mentioned them in my quick overview, but I'll explain them further here.
#1 - Plastic Wheelbase
The foundation of any office chair, including the Nouhaus Posture, is the wheelbase. It is as crucial as the seat adjuster, armrest, and backrest. While the nylon wheelbase Nouhaus offers has some advantages, I have reservations concerning its long-term durability and resistance to wear and tear.
Nouhaus can drastically improve the durability of the chair by using aluminium or steel for the wheelbase. These materials, coupled with the five-point wheelbase design that it currently has, can allow for a higher weight-bearing capacity.
#2 - Silver Finishing

Again, I wasn’t particularly pleased with the silver finish on some parts of the chair. I think NOUHAUS can improve the build material to make it more durable and prevent it from getting scratched so easily.
#3 - Does Not Come Assembled
Some office chairs I have tested before came assembled to a point, but it's not unusual for them to be flat packed either; this is the case with the Nouhaus Posture Chair.
The good news, however, is that the parts fit together easily, and Nouhaus provides an assembling manual with the package. It also has a video guide if you're a visual learner. Putting the chair together shouldn’t take you more than 25 minutes.
Nouhaus Posture Chair Rating & Ranking
Compared to other ergonomic chairs on the Australian market, here’s how the Nouhaus Posture Chair fared:
Category | Rating (5.0) |
---|---|
Ergonomics | 3.5 |
Build Quality | 3.8 |
Aesthetics | 4.0 |
Ease of Assembly | 4.0 |
Pricing | 3.5 |
Return Policy | 4.0 |
Warranty | 3.5 |
Overall | 3.8 |
For context, it ranked below the ErgoTune Supreme (4.8-star rating) and Herman Miller Cosm Chair (4.5-star rating). Both have a mesh build and higher weight capacity than the Nouhaus, making them suitable for warmer climates.
The Competition
If any of the shortcomings of the Nouhaus Posture Chair are deal breakers for you, consider my curated shortlist of alternative executive office chairs below:
Commercial Furniture Direct Martin Executive Office Chair

Unlike the Nouhaus Posture Chair, the Commercial Furniture Direct comes with an aluminium base, superior structural integrity, and a higher weight-bearing capacity of 120 kg. So, if a firmer seat with better durability is what you are after, choose the Commercial Furniture Direct.
Both executive chairs also have synchro recline mechanisms and a PU leather build, but the Nouhaus Posture Chair offers more ergonomic features. The most useful ones include the five-position lumbar support adjustment, tilt-rock, and flip-adjust armrests. It's also worth mentioning that the Direct Martin Executive Office Chair has fixed armrests, so it won't be as ergonomic for everybody.
Assist Synchron Mechanism Executive Chair

If you’ve got a slightly bigger budget, you can get a more stable, durable, and higher weight-bearing capacity (130 kg) with the Assist Synchron Mechanism Executive Chair. It has a 700mm alloy base, which is stronger and more durable than the Nouhaus Posture Chair. Most of the parts on the Assist Synchron are also made of more premium materials.
Although both chairs have a synchro tilt mechanism, tilt tension adjustment, and height-adjustable seat, the Nouhaus Posture Chair has more adjustments with the click-5 lumbar support and flip-adjust arms. On the other hand, the Assist Synchron chair provides more options for customisation. You decide between a high back and a low back and three fabric options to match your office design.
Is the Nouhaus Posture Chair Good for Promoting Proper Posture?
The Nouhaus Posture Chair is excellent for promoting good sitting posture. The chair offers adequate support for your back and neck. Here are some key features that help this chair promote good posture:
- Click-5 Lumbar Support: The click-5 lumbar support design provides you with five stages of support for your lower spine. So, it’s easy to maintain good posture and prevent slouching when the natural curve of your spine is properly supported.
- Synchro-Tilt: The Synchro-tilt mechanism minimises the seat pan rise when you recline the chair to ensure your feet remain attached to the floor, which helps to encourage proper posture. You can also safely and comfortably stretch your chest and torso when tilting the chair.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
Here are some frequently asked questions about the Nouhaus Posture Chair.
Is the Nouhaus Posture Chair PU Leather breathable?
PU leather has poor breathability compared to mesh chairs and real leather alternatives. The material is impermeable and may not be the best option for long hours of sitting in humid, hot climates. Nouhaus Posture, however, features an open-cell structure foam cushion that provides the chair with a bearable level of breathability.
Does the Nouhaus Posture Chair provide comfort for long sitting hours?
While the Nouhaus Posture isn’t the most ergonomically designed office chair, it has adequate features that make it ideal for long sitting hours. These include the seat foam's open-cell structure for enhanced comfort and the Click-5 lumbar support that helps reduce strains and aches in your lower back.

The Takeaway
The Nouhaus Posture Chair, coming in under $700, is backed by a 3-year base warranty and offers good value for money. You can easily adjust the height, lumbar pad, and tilt of the chair to find the sweet spot for your body. The flip-up armrest and elevated headrest are also great features that add to the overall comfort and versatility of the chair.
I had to overlook a few issues that may be unique to my individual needs to enjoy the good performance of the chair, notable among which was the silver finish on the side and the nylon wheelbase. As it wasn't to my taste and I am not all that tall (184 cm), I still prefer and keep my Ergotune Supreme for day-to-day use. Still, it’s worth considering for anyone up to 107 kg who likes the style of it.
